New Yorker Arianna Chetram brings the chilled R&B vibes on her new 'Milk & Cookies' EP and if, like me, you're struggling with the state of the world right now, this might be just what you need. Opening with 'Candy Babe' you immediately get a feel for the way Chetram uses influences she has picked up on her travels around the world with Eastern influences and Latin guitars all woven into the fabric of this soulful and effortless number. There's a little more Jazz in the mix on 'The Way I Do' with a hooky beat, lazily strummed guitars and Chetram's vocal performing some sort of hypnotic magic on the listener.
On 'I Love To Be With You' the guitars ripple wistfully and the vocals float dreamily like the last summer breeze saying goodbye to sunny days and endless evenings. The demanding and frank title of 'Kiss Me Everywhere' foreshadows the strident energy with sliding 80s synths and a punchy beat but it's the pleading chorus that really brings that desperation for physical touch to the fore. The EP closes on 'It's Sweet To Me' which shows off the lower end of Chetram's sultry vocal range accompanied by chilled guitars but its the almost spoken chorus that gives this track an edge that sets it apart from other tracks in the genre. Arianna Chetram is one of those artists who has taken time over her craft and I don't mean just the song writing but also living a life with her heart, mind, eyes and ears open so she's got something to write about.
