I'm never overly keen when cities are described as having 'a sound' (Madchester etc.) but there is something about bands from Sheffield that has a strong, steely core running throught the sound that ties them together. The debut release from the Steel city's new trio Weekend Millionaires, 'Dopamine', has a gritty, concrete soul as choppy indie guitars mixed with poppy melodies and the kind of stylish vocals that the Human League would unsmilingly approve of from the corner of bar in Nether Edge as they share a pint with the Long Blondes.
