MAPLE GLIDER - ALBUM REVIEW

Maple Glider - I Get Into Trouble (Partisan
Records)

Release Date: Out Now

I've enjoyed discovering Maple Glider through her singles this year but I'm only just realising that the singer-songwriter's real name is Tori Zietsch so I guess there's more to discover yet. 'I Get Into Trouble', the latest album, sets out its stall with sleepily woozy opening track 'Do You' which sways and gently hypnotizes with a distinct sound. 'Dinah' is a more lively, Feist-esque number with playful vocals and a pitter-patter beat while 'Two Years' has a more laid back vibe that hangs off the gently bubbling bass line and those Lana Del Rey vocals.

On 'FOMO', Glider goes back to that woozy, dreamy place that has a David Lynch side to it before 'Don't Kiss Me' takes a simple, acoustic avenue that shows off the delicate, subdued vocals brilliantly and beautifully. Former singles 'You At The Top Of The Driveway' and 'You're Gonna Be A Daddy' both sound as sweet and fresh as the first fall of snow and let you in to a magical world of Maple Glider's creation.

This is not a high-octane, Saturday night experience but it is an album you can wrap yourself up in wait for the rain to clear. 'For You And All The Songs We Loved' weaves and wends through country lanes on a bicycle for one before 'Surprises' breathily wafts in on an end of summer breeze to soothe any aches and pains you may have. The album closes on 'Scream', an unlikely title for an album with such gentle tones throughout, and sure enough its a soothing, almost sorrowful farewell to a thoroughly intimate and gentle album.
