DEAD AIR - EP REVIEW

Dead Air - Elements (Fly Tip Records)

Release Date: Out Now

'Elements' is the exhilarating new EP from South London trio Dead Air and it is a four track roller-coaster that you want to be buckled in for. The powerful beat that introduces 'Die' is soon joined by a throbbing bass line and crooning, rock'n'roll vocals with an intensity akin to the likes of Editors or Young Knives at their most aggressive. 'Love and Patience' has a swagger to it that will play well in the US but also a fuzzed up, raw energy that is so unmistakably British along the lines of Dinosaur Pile-Up.

Penultimate track 'Violently Blue' broods like peak Nirvana, Silverchair or Bush before bursting into a distorted, technicolour shrapnel blast at the vocals, once again, cut through the raw power with a style which befits a band ready for bigger venues. The EP closes, all too soon, with final track 'Breathe' - an absolutely fizzing and brilliant rock'n'roll track that builds from a spark in the night to the kind of pyre that could be seen for miles around. Dead Air are the real deal - tight, punchy and powerful but with ideas, melodies and messages. Brilliant stuff.
