I've got high hopes and grand expectations for Billie Maree, a Totnesian singer-songwriter I first heard back in 2023 but who is about to make her move on 2025. New single 'Open Myself To' is a new direction that moves away from the more folky stylings of the past and into something altogether more contemporary. There are hints of Seaker in the understated beauty, flavours of Zoe Johnston in the perfectly poised vocal delivery and flashes of Florence + the Machine in the organic dance vibe created - not least in the brilliant drum flourishes. This is gently uplifting and quietly life affirming, like a walk on an early Spring day or that first lung-full of air in the morning after you've been bed-bound with illness. Today is a new day, let's see what it holds.
