As you can tell from the picture, Scotsman Colin Manson is a purist in the field of drum'n'bass. I jest, of course. Manson's music, as typified by his new single 'These Words', is firmly in the folk realm but with such rich and pure beauty that it almost defies genres. The rippling acoustic guitar notes are earthy and honest, a la Jose Gonzalez, while the vocals have a deep, velvety tone that sounds like audible Guinness. The tumult of the guitar, drums and spiraling strings as it reaches its climax is like a storm crashing on the rocks and its all I can do to resist jumping in head first. Mind you, I'd love to hear a d'n'b remix.
