"I fought hard for my life just to think about taking it myself" is one hell of a powerful opening line but that's what cancer can do to a person and LA artist Sadye has seen more than her fair share of the C word. 'The Joke Is On Me' is a slick and stylish alt-pop track that, melodically, has a sense of empowerment and playfulness but that is violently juxtaposed by the lyrics which take on the psychological impact of battling cancer and surviving. This is a powerful song that will, sadly, resonate with an awful lot of people - myself included.
