BER - EP REVIEW

Ber - Room For You EP

Release Date: Out Now

The fact that 26 year-old Ber has spent time living in the UK, US and Norway gives her a different sounding prospect to her contemporaries so I'm always excited to get new material from her. The 'Room For You' EP, therefore, was a very welcome arrival in my inbox and I'm delighted to share it with you. The five track gets going with the chugging acoustic rock energy of 'Better Man' which takes an American radio friendly melody, Scandinavian cool vocals and a crisp British production to make the perfect introduction to the Ber sound. 'Middle Of Nowhere' has a more country vibe with a subtle banjo sound matching Ber's delicate vocal while they mingle with warped and twisted sounds the scutter in from the late shadows.

There's a more up-tempo and rocky vibe to 'Whatever Forever' which could easily be an A-list track on BBC Radio 2 with it's infectious melody, sing-a-long chorus and a beat that makes you want to dance around the kitchen or sway your shoulders while you're sat at the traffic lights. Title track 'Room For You' is a piano based ballad that could have been plucked from the Twilight soundtrack but gives Ber's voice and range a chance to really stretch out beautifully. The EP finishes up with 'It's Impressive', an introspective early hours piano meander with confessional lyrics that lays out the artists soul for all to hear. The songwriting and performance on this EP is understated but equally superb in a way that shows an artist comfortable in her own skin and comfortable with her creative process. It's a delight to hear.
