"Indie Folk Heartbreak" is the tag line in the PR blurb for this one so I saved it especially for late January, between two storms and a few days before pay day to, y'know, fully immerse myself in the mood. 'Let Your Love Run Cold', the latest release from Shropshire's Jessie Read, opens with suitably mournful and rippling acoustic notes before the close vocal harmonies join in and, yes, I can confirm that my heart strings have been tugged. There are elements of First Aid Kit, Hafdis Huld and Wildwood Kin to this one as it drives off through the forest at first light, less in search of a new life but more running away from the old one. All with a subtly steely determination though, there's a little spark left inside. Just.
