THE STRYDES - EP REVIEW

The Strydes - The Strydes EP

Release Date: Out Now

This is the debut EP from Cornish Mods the Strydes but their sound is so accomplished you'd be forgiven for thinking they'd been putting material for some time now. The eponymously titled four track collection kicks off with 'Reconsider', a song that ambles down the road with its hands in its pockets singing a brilliantly heartbroken love song with nods to the Beatles, the Coral, the Zutons and the whole Merseybeat sound. 'Moving On' has a similarly mellow vibe but with a slightly darker sound with the lead guitar adding an Edwin Collins edge and a tip of the cap to the song writing style of Ray Davies.

On 'I Can't Help Myself', the band really slip in to that 60s sound as well as paying homage to more recent bands like Redd Kross with the rough-around-the-edges vocal delivery soothed by gorgeous harmonies. The EP finishes on recent single '10,000 Dreams' - a tale of unrequited love told through a trans-Atlantic accent with a shuffling beat and a tight little guitar riff. The Strydes know their sound and have honed it to precision filtered perfection so if you like your song writing to be done in a classic style and your melodies to match your harmonies then you need look no further.
