UPSAHL - SINGLE REVIEW

UPSAHL - PHX Tapes 3 (Sony Music)

Release Date: Out Now

Here's another brace of tracks from the superb UPSAHL who has recently been making new friends at the Reading and Leeds festivals. First up is '0 or 100' which sounds like a late-night noodling on a hotel lobby piano by someone at a low ebb in the middle of a draining and extensive tour. The keys are simple and somber, the vocals intimately deliver the confessional lyrics and the chorus is like a controlled explosion - letting just enough emotion out to stop from spilling over. 'FBL' is the other track on this release and has a much cleaner, more poppy sound but still with that dark edge that makes UPSAHL so enthralling. The playful vocals of the chorus sound like a teenager playing with a switchblade and an unhinged laugh but the confidence and emotionally open in the rest of the song gives you just enough to let you know that jumping in to the passenger seat is probably going to be the best decision you'll ever make.
