Niamh McKinney - Up and Ran

Release Date: Out Now

It will be no surprise that an artist with a name like Niamh McKinney hails from Ireland but this single by the singer-songwriter is full of surprises so leave your other preconceptions at the door. 'Up and Ran' starts off with a delicate flick of the folky wrist before meandering, swirling and tumbling through a whole host of styles and influences. There are elements of Alanis Morrisette, Imogen Heap, Ani DiFranco and Sheryl Crow in the changes in tempo, breathy vocals and weaving between major and minor notes on acoustic guitar augmented with synthetic noises. I have to say this is one of the most infectious, confusing and exhilarating songs I have heard in a very long time so I'm well up for some more Niamh McKinney in my life.
