SOPHIE ELLIS-BEXTER - SINGLE REVIEW

Sophie Ellis-Bexter - Breaking The Circle
(Cooking Vinyl)

Release Date: Out Now

My love affair (musically speaking) with Sophie Ellis-Bextor continues as her new single, 'Breaking the Circle', blends her more recent disco confidence with her early-career indie cool. Grandiose opening melodies played out through luscious strings are soon supercharged by a pumping rhythm section and a piano having the honky tonked out of it. Ellis-Bexter's perfectly poised pop vocal then strides out confidently with a sound the is somewhere between Kylie's indie phase, the Manic Street Preachers' poppier moments and the kind of track that would be a Bond theme if they ever decided to go with a female Bond. Expect this one to be a live favourite as the chorus is made for singing along and holding arms in the air. Stunning.
