Dakota Jones are becoming one of my favourite finds of 2023 and the new single from the New York outfit, 'Dissent'n'Gin' keeps that upward trajectory going in the right direction. This is a sub-two minute jazz infused soul track that features a brilliant double bass line, tinkling piano notes, sweeping strings and vocals that mix rap, soul and spoken word to create a vivid New York City soundtrack. Through in a little grumbling guitar solo and some scratching on the decks, and you've got yourself nearly two hot minutes in the city that never sleeps. Perfection.
