THE SKINNER BROTHERS - EP REVIEW

The Skinner Brothers - Lonedon EP

Release Date: 23rd September 2022

London outfit the Skinner Brothers have not been idle over the Summer months with the new 'Lonedon' EP the fruit of their endeavours. Opening with the title track, there's a Stereophonics vibe to the bluesy stomp enveloped in strings and stitched together with a searing guitar melody that surely needs an excellent guitar face to pull off those licks. On 'Mellow', the pace becomes a little less intense and more meandering but that guitar sound is still just as raw and sharp which is refreshing these days.

My favourite track on this collection is 'Loaded Gun' which opens somewhat chaotically before settling in to a rhythm that comes straight out of central London in the 1960s but with Tom Meighan on vocals and Fat Boy Slim rolling a fat one in the corner of the studio. The fourth and final track, 'Make It Count', has a travelling vibe to it with a whistled melody and sparse guitars before the chorus drops ready for you to sing along while you drive down the coast of Italy in a knackered soft top. The Skinner Brothers always bring the melodies and vibes but you've got to appreciate the songwriting too because it is of the highest order.
