I could listen to this song on a loop for hours and a big part of that is down to the intro that has already found a place in my heart. Ellie M’s ‘In Your Eyes’ starts with an inconspicuous jangling guitar melody before a simple beat joins in but, oh, that bass line sliding along underneath it all is just to die for. And then what’s this? Oh wow, Ellie M’s vocal is somewhere between a young Chrissie Hynde and some weird amalgamation of Regine Spektor, Karen O, Elliot Smith and Bruce Springsteen. The emotional swell of the melody and that vocal testing its range before settling back down for the moody low notes are sublime. Like a well cooked and perfectly proportioned meal, everything here is served up just the way it should be. I’m going to listen to it again….
