This is my first experiene of alt-rock trio Muttering but I'm already convinced I'd like to spend a long afternoon in the pub with them putting the world to rights and supping beer. 'Modern Living' starts with a subdued guitar melody and the pleading apology about that very real problem of smart phone obsession and how it disconnects us from each other. As the guitars rise and fall, the drums crash like waves against the unforgiving cliff face of ignorance and those desperate vocals cry out from inside someone desperate to reconnect with the world. Along with the excellent video, this is the kind of song that really stops you in your tracks and shakes you from your somnambulant trance.
