Joe Hicks - Mirror Mirror

Once my brain had explained to me that this wasn't a release by everyone's favourite pandemic gym instructor Joe Wicks, I was able to fully appreciate this single. 'Mirror Mirror' is the latest track from Joe Hicks (with an H) and it blasts in with a Maximo Park-esque riff matched by vocals that you'd expect from Paolo Nutini. The combination of driving guitars, smooth indie-pop vocals and a catchy-as-hell melody leaves the listener with an ear worm and, if you're anything like me, some involuntary dance moves. This is brilliantly accomplished songwriting but it is also a joy to listen to which reminds me of some of the greats in this field such as Deacon Blue, Del Amitri and Prefab Sprout but with a 21st century vibe. Plus he's not asking you to do any bloody squats so everyone's a winner.
