Dorset teenager Theo Powell arrived in my inbox with minimal fanfare and that is perfectly in keeping with his understated style. Powell's single 'Old Friend' is a gorgeously stripped back acoustic meander through rippling notes and soft, honest vocals. The tone is one of looking back on times gone by and the style sits somewhere between alt-folk and acoustic pop with the melody and the substance getting equal balance. I am reminded of one my all time most missed artists, Avert Francis, and that's pretty much as high as my praise gets. Understated, certainly, but not to be underestimated.
