CAROLESDAUGHTER - SINGLE REVIEW

carolesdaughter - Target Practice (Arista
Records)

Release Date: Out Now

I've been waiting for this one to come along and it is finally here. This could be the tune that propels goth-pop artist carolesdaughter in to the mainstream and if it isn't then you're all fools. 'Target Practice' takes the acoustic opening and forlorn vocal approach to lull you to in to a false sense of vulnerability before the bass and drums get things on. There's some Placebo, some Avril, some Fountaines of Wayne and all that Wheatus high school attitude but wrapped in the otherness of being a goth girl in 2022. Then comes the anthemic sing along chorus, all together now: "Fell asleep in maths this morning, slammed my head against the table, every day's so god damn boring but I don't mean to sound ungrateful". Perfect.
