Five daper gents from Brighton spent an afternoon on a squash court and what they emerged with was this superb new single (and probably some bruises based on my experience of spending time on a squash court). 'Self Exile' is an agitated but upbeat track with all the energy of a 6 year old on Sunny D and Skittles which sounds like something between Maximo Park, Roxy Music and Dutch Uncles. The drums pop, the bass rolls, the guitars ping and the synths sound like they come from out of space. Vocally, this is reminiscent of Mark E. Smith but with a Brandon Flowers suaveness that charms and disarms simultaneously. Urgent, punchy and energetic - just the way I like my indie.
