Back with their first new material in five years, Placebo release 'Beautiful James' and it is a triumphant return from the ageless duo. Brian Molko's vocal is as unmistakable as ever but the melody has the sad uplifting thing about like the morning after a horrible break up where you decide to start living the rest of your life. There's an incredibly 80s synth melody in the chorus that shouldn't work but boy does it work and it feels like a reboot of the Breakfast Club has been made so that Judd Nelson's grandchild (who is half cyborg) can walk towards the camera with it's shiny metal fist in the air. Placebo, as ever, have made music that is as cold as ice with a beating heart at its centre and long may they continue to do so.
