New Jersey's Camille Peruto has surprised me with this song because all the imagery around this release suggested a nice pop song which would have been just fine. However, 'Pretty On The Outside' has an edge and a bite to it that is darker than you might expect. Vocally, Peruto is a powerful pop singer with a great range and raw emotion in her voice but the minor key melodies reveal a whole different perspective. The heaviness that you often associate with pop-rock is kept at arm's length in favour of the strong melodies and it is the perfect balance of dark and light. Give Camille Peruto a listen, she might just surprise you.
