I'm always fascinated by the cultural and societal backgrounds of musicians and what impact that has on their art so I was more than a little intrigued to check out Dominican-Italian artist Yendry. 'YA' is based around a sinister and slightly unnerving melody but the beat shines a light on that Dominican background and the passion comes through in the vocals. Even through the subtitled lyrics on the video you can feel the themes of confidence and empowerment oozing from this and the stunning visuals shot in her current home of Colombia match the power and colour running through this track perfectly.
