KHANVICT - EP REVIEW

Khanvict - Escape EP (Snakes x Ladders)

Release Date: Out Now

First things first, Asad Khan (aka Khanvict) is a beautiful looking man. I just wanted to get that out of the way. Now, this EP is the focus of our attention and a worthy focus it is too as the Pakistan born but Canada based musician creates exotic and other-worldly soundscapes for our enjoyment. Opening track 'Impedance' mixes the slithering melodies of Khanvict's birth land with more mainstream club beats to intoxicating effect before 'Something Worth Protecting' broadcasts from the lush jungle with birds twittering and that gorgeous string sound weaving around you like snaking plumes of smoke.

'Kingdom' features the vocals of Amritha Shakti and creates a romantic, swaying vibe while 'Closer' builds a deep groove with children's voices adding some light to the deep, dark bass tones. The sprinkled melodies of 'Heavy' are like droplets of rain falling off giant leaves as, yet again, Khanvict transports you somewhere far away and you can almost feel the humidity closing in around you. The EP closes with title track 'Escpae' which features Sharanjeet Singh Mand  as the crackle of fire and the luxurious sitar tones draw you in closer in a way that is both enthralling and, like the siren call, unsettling. And I think that's what I love most about this music; the ability of one man to disorientate, transport and delight the listener with his imagination and an array of sounds that you won't find on mainstream radio.
