BAILEY TOMKINSON – SINGLE REVIEW

Bailey Tomkinson – Bright Red

Release Date: Out Now

For anyone living outside of Cornwall, the fact that the G7 summit is happening here in June 2021 is probably not that big a deal. However, for residents of one of the poorest regions in the old EU which is fast becoming a holiday mistress for the rich and famous, the overriding feeling is that the county is being used, abused and plundered in a way we haven’t seen since the peak of the mining boom. Fortunately, rising star (and former employee of the Carbis Bay Hotel where the world’s largest economies will meet to stroke their collective egos) Bailey Tomkinson has leant her voice to the groundswell of protests with new single ‘Bright Red’. The single opens with a brooding, soulful vibe which has Joss Stone tones with the soft guitar and shuffling beat, but Tomkinson’s voice is in a league of its own as it mixes with soul with alt-pop superbly. There is anger in the lyrics, but they are delivered so stealthily that you wouldn’t bet against Tomkinson getting a get to perform for our great leaders because nobody listened to the words properly. An anthem for a county’s people who have had enough of being squeezed out by second homes, no jobs and poor infrastructure.
