Mewn - I See It Now, Pt. 1

There is something distinctly dream-like about the debut release from Manchester outfit Mewn and it is more than a little disconcerting. The drawn out intro of 'I See It Now, Pt. 1' sounds like the eerie sounds coming from the attic where your creepy lodger is up to no good in the middle of the night before settling in to something that sounds like the Zutons or the Coral being piped through from a reality that exists just outside our own. The strum vs drum rhythm is steady and familiar but then it's drenched in woozy, disorientating and unnerving ambient melodies that knock you off your centre but keep you focused as though they are beckoning you through to join them. Then there's a rapid fade out as though someone has turned on the lights and scared them off leaving a ringing in your ears and an inexplicable nose bleed. Weird stuff but in a really cool way.
