Merpire - Village (ADA)

Australia seems to be pumping out some extraordinary artists in 2021 and Merpire (aka Rhiannon Atkinson-Howatt) seems to be the latest based on the evidence if new single 'Village'. The Melbourne based artist has written a subdued indie-grunge ballad which chugs and shuffles pleasingly before a moment of clear sunshine illumnates the chorus which bursts in to life. Merpire's lyrics are thoroughly engaging as lines like "It takes a village to hold on to you, I never thought if it like that" and "You're a living sugar refinery" draw you in to the world she is painting for you. There's a whole album of this beauty coming out in July 2021 and I, for one, cannot wait.
