CARISS AUBURN – EP REVIEW

Cariss Auburn – Refraction EP (Modern Sky)

Release Date: Out Now

Cariss Auburn is a British R&B star on the rise and a lot of that success so far comes from her slightly askew or refracted take on the genre which is perfectly encapsulated on new EP ‘Refraction’. The four-track collection opens with ‘Float’, a track full of West Coast flow and light, sultry melodies that soothe and seduce in equal measure. ‘Daydream’ is a more up-tempo affair with a pulsating beat and Auburn’s voice taking more of a centre stage position as she takes us through pop and R&B looking glass that kicks us out in Japan for a neon lit night-time cruise.

If you’re looking for silk-sheet smooth vibes then ‘Oblivion’ is the tune for you as Auburn writhes in the luxury of her own music giving it Mariah meets Ariana vibes but with a classy British edge. The EP closes out on ‘Call Me Up’ which has a much more poppy vibe more akin to Katy Perry, but the flow is still smooth and the quality is high. As I said, Cariss Auburn is a star on the rise and I strongly suggest you catch on to her vibes as soon as you can. Preferably on a Saturday night with some Moet and low lights.
