Devonshire duo Suthering are releasing
their new single ‘Gather’ on the world and the world should be grateful for
that. The poised piano melody that introduces this one is joined by sweet,
folky vocals that are drenched in spring blossom and warm winds as the
harmonies intertwine with ease. It would be easy to draw comparisons with the
locals of county-mates Harbottle & Jonas in terms of the tone and
timelessness but the power of those two strong female voices also brings hints
of the Indigo Girls to mind such is their evocative and emotive force. I had to
look up the meaning of ‘suthering’ or ‘to suther’ and found it to be an old
English word for the sighing or moaning which seems perfect for music of such
elemental and natural force.
