There are artists that always
catch your eye when they pop up with a new release and Devon singer songwriter
Sadie Horler is one such artist. ‘Lighting Gas’ is the new release from Horler
and there’s no secret what this one is about but there is still a sting in the
tail. You see, this tune shows a real step forward on two fronts with the first
being the slightly darker tone of the song with a sense of sweetness
underpinned by the souring of a relationship. The other aspect is the ambition
of the arrangement which undulates between intimate acoustic strumming and
huge, elemental melodies which sit somewhere between Florence + the Machine and
Brother & Bones. As the thumping drums power us to the crescendo you really
get the feeling of someone taking the next step on a path that will surely only
lead to greater acclaim and further creative evolution.
