I am very excited to release this
latest release from the supremely talented New Yorker Raina Sokolov-Gonzalez
because her previous track was one of my favourites of the past 12 months. ’40 Days’
doesn’t disappoint as a follow up to ‘Better For You’ with sparse and lonely
piano notes chiming out to be joined by a low bass rumble, vocal harmonies and
then some equally sparse percussion. Once all the components kick into gear, we
are treated to a Jazz-infused soulful and sensual number that speaks of loyalty,
waiting and, dare I say it, obsession. “I dreamt of you for 40 nights and 40
days” sings Sokolov-Gonzalez and oh to be the subject of those dreams.
