GRETA VAN FLEET – SINGLE REVIEW

Greta Van Fleet – Heat Above (Lava/Republic)

Release Date: Out Now

Sometimes I feel like I’ve woken up from a coma in a world I never knew. Despite devouring all things about music for years, this is my first encounter with Greta Van Fleet and now I have a new favourite band that are already fully formed and, frankly, in their prime. The Michigan quartet bring ‘Heat Above’ to our table and it is otherworldly that it feels as though it was delivered from heaven on the wings of an angel. There are flavours from Bowie, Bolan and Barrett in there with the dramatic organs mixing with the earthy acoustic guitar and the drums pounding like claps of thunder from above. All of this, however, is orchestrated and conducted by the beautifully performative front man Josh Kiszka who not only has a stunningly unique voice but one that is dripping in emotion, passion and supreme talent. Single of the year? Quite likely. It’s going to be a hard one to beat.
