There’s an undeniable and unavoidable
energy to this new release from Robyn Sherwell but the positive energy doesn’t necessarily
match the lyrics. ‘To Give Up’ finds Sherwell struggling with how to get out of
a toxic situation while the melodies ping and bounce like a Swedish summer pop
smash, thus creating a lovely juxtaposition of moods which concludes in a sense
of relief, release and freedom. There is real pop class and charm to this track
with a hint of soul and some electro cool to keep the music snobs happy.
