Rhys Hurd – Sound of the Music
Release Date: 19th February 2021
For the uninitiated, Rhys Hurd is
an extremely promising young producer, song writer and multi-instrumentalist
from Devon that you should be keeping an eye on. Hurd’s new single, ‘Sound of
the Music’, has nothing to do with the similarly titled musical starring Julie
Andrews but does have a lot to do with showing off just how excellent a
guitarist he is. The riff that opens this track is a snarling, slathering three
headed beast that would sound perfectly in place coming out of the guitar of
Tom Morello in his Audioslave incarnation. The song itself is incredibly well
put together but if I was to offer some constructive criticism it’s that riffs
this big deserve an equally big voice and Hurd could benefit from finding his Chris
Cornell to make this world beating. It is a bloody good start though and the
potential is huge.
