Jessica Wilde – Wasted/F*ck U I’m Sober Now

Here comes Jessica Wilde with a
double-A side single (a rarity these days) and it’s like a double-barrelled
shotgun to the ears. Up first is ‘Wasted’, a song that is as woozy as the title
suggests with wonky melodies and Wilde’s steely vocal delivery of lines like “you
can’t run from the truth once it’s left your tongue”. There’s a real late-night
vibe to this and that adds to the confessional sense of a song dealing with
shame and regret brought on by overindulgence. ‘F*ck U I’m Sober Now’ picks up
the story a few weeks on with sobriety the key word and a more euphoric and
empowered vibe. Spoken word verses bring Lily Allen and Kate Nash to mind but
the chorus of “Fuck you I’m sober now, turning my life around” is destined to
be sung back at Jessica Wilde by an ironically pissed up crowd in a field one
day….soon, hopefully.
