Karthauser were to somehow spawn a daughter then I would probably become weirdly
infatuated with that daughter in a creative sense. What I am trying to say is
that Jess McAllister is that daughter and her new single, ‘The Bushiest
of Beards’, is the creative energy that I need in the world right now. Rapidly
rolling piano notes, quick fire vocals and a very real sense of performance all
mix to make this compelling listening and exactly the kind of tune that will
rouse you from your pandemic slumber. Even the slowed down middle eight
surprises with the lyric “I bought you a straw hat when I should have hit you with
a baseball bat” delivered with double-edged sweetness. This is the song we all
need to come out of lockdown to, as we enter dry, sunlit fields with pints in hand
and smiles on faces.
