Hull’s Charlotte Anne has struck
on a really rich seam of writing material on new single ‘Down Days’ and I think
we all need to take a moment to recognise the genius of tackling low moods head
on in the time of a pandemic. The soul-pop vibes that underpin this song would
not be out of place on a Rag’n’Bone Man or Rita Ora track, but Charlotte Jane’s
vocals take this to the next level, overflowing with emotion and honesty. The
only current comparison I can make vocally is Joanna Cooke in terms of soulful
vocals with pop slickness which, trust me, is a huge compliment coming from me.
Or anyone with a pair of ears and brain, for that matter.
