When an artist says they’re
influenced by Billie Piper, the Pointer Sisters, Luther Vandross and Arcade Fire
you are at least obliged to take a listen, aren’t you? Well, I’m intrigued by
the prospect of UK talent Cariss Auburn and her new single ‘Float’ but if you’re
not then move along, it’s your loss. And it is a loss if you don’t listen because
‘Float’ is a bit special with its bobbing and weaving beats underpinning
smooth, soulful chords and a gently throbbing bass line. The cherry on the cake
is Auburn’s vocal which sublimely soul infused with R&B influences but she
changes her tone and delivery with consummate ease and you’d be forgiven for
thinking this is a fair more established artist. Don’t miss out.
