THOSE FUCKING SNOWFLAKES – EP REVIEW

Those Fucking Snowflakes – Everything Is
Absolutely Fkkkkkkd EP (Louder Than War Records)

Release Date: 22nd January 2021

It’s been a hell of a year so far, which makes you wonder if 2020 was just the warmup – the frying pan to our current fire, if you will. Who better to soundtrack our decent in to hell, then, than our favourite trio of politi-punks, Those Fucking Snowflakes. ‘Everything is Absolutely Fkkkkkkd’ is the new EP and the band’s first to be released on John Robb’s legendary Louder Than War label.

The EP opens with somewhat subdued energy as ‘Uncooperative Crusties’ gets us underway as the band instrumentally lurch from one closed pub to another in search of libation before erupting in a spew of anger that is reminiscent of Cable or Reuben. ‘Due Some Terrible End’ is probably the most melodic tune that I’ve TFS come up with but it still maintains the gang vocals even if the guitars are more 80s post-punk inspired. Strap yourselves in for ‘White Isn’t Right’ as the band go for hell for leather while the excellently titled ‘By the Power of Barnard Castle’ mixes Dominic Cummings with He-Man in a way nobody ever should – unless you’re going to set this unlikely pairing to jarring and bone shaking, fuzzed up guitars that make you want to throw your body around the place.

The anti-fracking anthem ‘Caudrilla Can Fuck Right Off’ is based around a mighty meaty bassline and those chiming guitars sound like the warning bells being rung before the drills arrive. The EP closes out with ‘Mendacious Meddling Milkshake Recipient’ is a polite title for a song that could have been called ‘Tommy Robinson is a Cunt’ but you get the idea and the band set about their battering ram brand of punk rock. I wouldn’t advise popping this on while you go for a run as you’re likely to clothes line a pensioner through sheer rage but if you need to hear something that reflects your anger with the world and gives you a chance to jump around like a loon then this is just the ticket.
