Selke – Rise

This is the debut release from
Devon duo Selke who comprise of the twin talents of Maz McNamara and Esme
Storm. ‘Rise’ is a gently plucked acoustic delight with mournful cello notes
underpinning the jazzy rhythm and melody on the guitar. However, the real star
is the atmosphere the pair create with this simple musicianship and gorgeous
folk harmonies that creates a genre sitting somewhere between jazz, folk, soul and
indie to soothe the soul. It would be lazy of me to draw comparisons with Sound
of the Sirens but regular readers will know how highly I regard that pairing so
it is certainly meant as a compliment. There’s an EP to follow in December and
big things in 2021 surely, if Covid allows.
