Brighton’s Yumi and the Weather is
the solo project of the superbly talented Ruby Taylor, bringing new single ‘The
More I Hear The Less I Believe’ to your attention with no shortage of political
commentary. Chiming and cheery guitars bounce along on top of a catchy bass
line before Taylor’s soft, unassuming vocal joins in to disarm the listener
immediately. “You’re gonna have to stay inside, but you can go out for things”
is sung without any spit or venom but it still stings as a criticism of the way
the UK government have bumbled and fudged through their management of the
global pandemic. When people stop being angry and start just knowing that you’ve
fucked up, that’s when you’re in trouble.
