THE CLOCKWORKS – SINGLE REVIEW

The Clockworks – Enough Is Never Enough
(Creation 23)

Release Date: Out Now

Irish lads the Clockworks may have come up with one of the singles of the year accompanied by one of the videos of the year and I think we all need to take a moment to enjoy that combination. ‘Enough Is Never Enough’ follows in a similar vein to countrymen Fontaines D.C. and Bristolians IDLES with it’s uncompromising guitars and raw energy hitting hard from the off. “It was a Tuesday and it was…. bleak” is an opening line delivered with more deadpan menace than anything I’ve heard recently and that sums up the Clockworks – they make the mundane dramatic and that is important. The melodic garage punk rattles along apace while frontman James McGregor repeats the line “these fingers were made for pointing” and you know just who they’re pointing at. You can see (and, more importantly, hear) while Alan McGee is so excited about these guys and if you know what’s good for you then you’ll get on board with one of the last good things to come out of 2020.
