THE BOY FROM THE SOUTH – EP REVIEW

The Boy From The South – Mornings EP

Release Date: Out Now

There is still a fair amount of mystery surrounding solo artist The Boy From The South. All I know is that he has Spanish roots, writes great melodies and loves a Cornish pasty – I’ve invited people to sleep on my couch with less illustrious CVs so this is a very good start. This EP consists of three tracks including the single ‘Home Sweet Home’ which I fell in love with a while back because of its warm, gentle tones and sepia vibes. ‘Escapism’ is a lo-fi, Sunday afternoon kind of tune full of atmospheric melodies and low, gruff vocals that put you in mind of Jeff Buckley at his most introspective.

The last part of the trilogy of tunes is ‘Morning (Piano Version’ which has a lazy Western swagger which sounds like Elliott Smith playing in a saloon bar with half a bottle of sarsaparilla on top of the opened up piano. The Boy From The South has such a warm and inviting feel to everything he does it can be very tempting to just lose yourself in the music and that’s no bad thing.
