Spang Sisters – Eddie Murphy

So, a couple of gents from London town decided to form a band
called Spang Sisters and write a tune called ‘Eddie Murphy’ – so far so good. The
fact that the tune is properly good and the video is a work of surreal
storytelling art just makes this an even more enjoyable experience. The music
is woozy with an 80s indie vibe mixed in with some smooth soul moves and a real
sense of modern timelessness. The guitars come from the baby-making school of
playing while the vocals could easily be straight outta Motown – it’s a heady
mix. Meanwhile, in the video, a sausage falls in love with a fish finger, there’s
a Prince-esque guitar solo and we are taught a thing or two about accepting difference
by two pieces of processed animal products. All in all, it’s a bit of genius.
