Ellie Bleach – I Thought I Saw You Last Night

I’ve been reading this artist’s
name as Ellie Beach until I started writing this sentence, but the addition of
that little ‘l’ makes this a far more acidic and acerbic prospect with very little
effort. Bleach’s new single, ‘I Thought I Saw You Last Night’, is supposed to
be channelling ABBA according to the press blurb but I get a more immediate sense
of Ben Folds and Rufus Wainwright on writing duties and some amalgamation of
Chrissie Hynde, Carly Simon and Christine & the Queens on vocals. The production and arrangements
are pleasingly ambitious, the vibe is timeless and the joy is boundless. Love
it.
