Excellent London duo Cherryade
are back with their take on the pandemic via this double single and it is
typically infectious and on the money. The first of the two tracks, ‘Only Fan’,
kicks in with a static beat and Ella’s classically abrupt vocals singing about
the current shift for OnlyFans accounts that allow sex workers to make a living
and career in a more safe and self-controlled space. “VAT free, do I make you
hot?” Ella sings like the most British Hip-Hop artist you’ve ever heard.
The second track is ‘Sick!’ which
has a more laid-back vibe but turns Covid into a competition over who can be
more sick, who has it worst and who gets the most attention for it. Cherryade
are that most British thing of laughing in the face of adversity but bottled
and presented with processed beats and synthetic melodies. Keep it coming you
two, it’s going to be a loooooong winter.
