I find Young Knives to be a
reassuringly dark presence in my life like that ‘massage parlour’ on the high
street or the guy always nursing half a pint of mild in the back corner of your
local. I wouldn’t necessarily approach any of these things but if they disappeared
suddenly it would be disconcerting, and questions would have to be answered.
The duo’s new single, ‘Society for Cutting Up Men’, is suitably left of
left-field mixing Gregorian chants, fuzzed up bass and the kind of guitar sound
that seemingly came from a possessed Stylophone. The vocals continue that English
post-punk vibe that Young Knives have always had and if the accompanying video
doesn’t make you want to burn down a shopping mall then you have a greater resolve
than I do….
