Another new star has been added
to the glittering galaxy of Canadian musicians with the debut release from
Toronto’s Wayley. The solo singer-songwriter is releasing ‘What’s It Gonna Take’
and it is a gorgeously off-kilter slice of indie-pop that slides neatly in
between Vampire Weekend, Rooney and Andreas Johnson. The beat nudges things
along with a syncopated rhythm and the melodies swoop and soar in a way that
would be impressive from a more established artist, never mind one taking his
first steps in the music world. An ambitious start and one entirely vindicated
by the results.
