Those Fucking Snowflakes – Straight Wealthy

Like the horsemen of the apocalypse,
Blackpool’s truth-sayers Those Fucking Snowflakes are here with their new EP,
the beautifully titled ‘Straight Wealthy White Male Suffrage’. For the uninitiated,
TFS like to brutally dismantle everything that’s wrong with society like a mix
of Idles and the Manics but with wigs and northern accents. The opening track
of the EP is ‘Only Weak Men Fear Strong Women’ which starts with a raw,
rattling garage guitar followed by blasting drums and the kind of vocals that
have to be shouted because they are angry and they have to fight to be heard
above the rest of the band.
Next up is ‘Boris Johnson and the
Big Red Bus of Bullshit’ which, aside from being one of the most blunt song
titles ever, is an assault on the senses that encapsulates the rage of one half
of a divided nation by generally abusing a bunch of instruments and screaming with
a semblance of control. There is, however, a change of pace and tone at the end
of this song which is frankly beautiful as the whole band chime in to sing “Fuck
You. Fuck You Boris Johnson”. A song title like ‘Meat is Murder, but Morrissey’s
a Dickhead’ has a lot to live up to but this 136 second romp does just that as
it speeds it’s way through an angry rant about, well, a lot of stuff but mainly
Morrissey being a preachy right-wing dickhead.
On ‘Carnibores’ the band let loose
at meat eaters in general with punk ferocity with a catchy, sing along
middle-eight of “B-B-B-Bacon, B-B-B-Bacon…..Bellend”. The EP closes out on ‘Tangerine
Pirate of the NHS’, a song with a certain piratical charm but mostly with the kind
of punk-rock chops that would tear the roof off any venue – assuming they get
to play live again at some point. Those Fucking Snowflakes are the sound of
anger and hate aimed at a society that has got everything upside down right
now. If these guys are snowflakes then I’d get the fuck inside because they
look like they might be cut out of razor blades.
